Talking Gigs

Since launching in 2014, Sheffield based Talking Gigs have featured an incredible line-up of performers including Bassekou Kouyate, Robyn Hitchcock, Tinariwen, Sam Lee, Emmanuel Jal and many others.  Supported by Songlines magazine, the innovative half interview / talk show and half concert format gives audiences a real close-up insight into an artist’s work, life and culture. More than just an interview though, artists perform particular songs in the first half, discussing them with the interviewer, before performing a full concert in the second half.

Orchestra of Samples fitted perfectly into their format and it was a real pleasure to have been asked, plus it was great to perform in Sheffield again. Guesting with us were the wonderful Sufi singer Sarah Yaseen (who we previously recorded for the project) and the amazing percussionist and flautist Ford Collier. Interviewing us was Talking Gigs’ Alasdair Dempster and it really was a awesome night with an inquisitive and fantastic audience!

Sheffield magazine Now Then wrote a great review, saying “…Addictive TV treated us to their absorbing and fascinating blend of digitally recorded samples and live improvisation“, full review here.

With thanks to the University of Sheffield and to Philippa Richardson for the page header image and photos of the talk.
